31 Day Writing Challenge #2: Day 15 - 'A Priest Walks Into...'

Father Adrian Fallon walked into the great hall, his confusion evident as he took in the grand ceiling, as well as the scorch marks that scarred the floor and bottom four feet of the walls and columns. This wasn't right. This wasn't where he was meant to go.

"Thought you'd end up somewhere else?" Father Fallon's gaze followed the voice to a raised altar and a tall, lean man draped across a large throne. An entertained smirk played on the man's lips.

"Who are you?" The priest demanded, feigning confidence. The man's smirk widened.

"Oh, I think you know exactly who I am. You just don't want to admit it because of what it would means."

"But I'm a priest. I have served the Lord for decades. I do not belong here."

"Yes, You do. You belong here. Well, not here exactly, we have a place reserved for people like you."

"I do not belong here. I have earned my rightful place."

"You earned your placed HERE." The man's smirk disappeared and made way for an angry scowl. He had stood up from the throne and was bearing down on the priest. "Every penny you took from collection; every choir boy you touched; every trust you violated, earned you your fate. You paved your way here."

"I repented for my sins, I was forgiven."

"No. You weren't. Not by Him and definitely not by me. You think because a book written by mortals says it'll work, that it will?"

"On Earth as it is in Heaven." Father Fallon countered.

"Nope. Wrong again. No mortal, not even the clergy, decides what God does. And the Lord does not play by your rules. Now you, you committed heinous sins agains the Lord's children and have been judged on them. We both know how Father loves his children."

"He wouldn't abandon me."

The man chuckled.

"He hasn't abandoned you, he has sent you to me to be taken care of. I'll see you're treated exactly as you deserve." A devilish glint danced in his eye. "And you should know, I take special care of those who harm kids. It's a particular thing I despise."

"But you are the Devil, You are pure evil."

"I'm an angel. Fallen, but still an angel. And, I am not evil, just exceptional at punishing it."

With those words, the flames engulfed the room and Father Adrian Fallon was sent to Hell.
